Hollywood Forever

This past Saturday I was in Los Angeles and had some free time so I decided to finally venture out to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery to see Dee Dee Ramone's grave and the Johnny Ramone memorial statue. It also happened to be the 40th anniversary of the release of Rocket to Russia which was an amazing coincidence.

Dee Dee's grave and the memorial statue are fairly close together and easy to find. When you enter the cemetery make a left after the guard gate and after checking out some of the living residents (peacocks in cages and stray cats) make the first right. Dee Dee's grave is on the left about 10-15 feet down the road.

There's no mistaking this grave belongs to a Ramone. One of Dee Dee's lyrics is inscribed around the band's famous presidential seal.

It's easy to see how many visitors Dee Dee gets as there were items left behind by people as well as lipstick "kisses" on the granite. Under his name it simply says:

I felt a wave of emotion standing there where Dee Dee will rest for eternity.

If you continue up to the next intersection on the left you'll see the entrance to the Garden of Legends.

Johnny's memorial statue is easy to spot and speaks for itself. It's already a pretty high traffic area and with Chris Cornell's plot a few feet away there was a lot of activity.

The Hollywood Forever cemetery is located at 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.
